The Extension Plant Sciences Department performs field demonstrations of crops, provides training for pesticide application, identifies plant diseases and insects, and educates producers on maintaining water quality around agricultural areas. Plant science specialists provide educational programs to numerous commodity and special interest groups throughout New Mexico. The Department strives to provide producers, clientele, and citizens with a broad base of essential knowledge, education, and support. Chile producers, pecan growers, alfalfa hay growers, Master Gardeners, garden clubs, beekeepers, Native American tribes, the Elephant Butte Irrigation District, and the New Mexico Highway Department are just some of the people who seek out the department's support.
